The Cordwainer

Leigh, Lancashire, United Kingdom

The word Cordwainer derives from the Spanish “Cordovaner”, a leather worker from Cordoba in Andulucia. During the heyday of the “Wain trades”, the word became incorporated into the English language in it’s present context.

My custom made shoes are made to your requirements, and being hand crafted, you know they are being tailored to your needs. With over thirty years of shoe-making experience, I pride myself in my craft and helping to make a difference to your quality of life.

I offer a limited Nationwide Visiting Service for those unable to travel to the shop for measuring and fitting, although this is restricted to areas where I have enough enquiries.

I specialise in making footwear for people with all sorts of foot and mobility problems, but always try to keep in mind that our customers want the shoes to look as normal as possible.

It may be possible for you to receive the footwear you need through the N.H.S. I make Orthopaedic / Surgical Footwear with far higher standards than normally available through the N.H.S. See the section later in these web pages.

My shop at Leigh is easy to find and you will find parking easy in the Leigh area.
